South Western Allotments Association

A converted piece of waste-ground at Pollock Park, enabling people to continue gardening in a social environment, particularly when a full size plot would be too much for them, for what ever reason, be it health, age, work commitments etc.

We wanted to convert a piece of wasteground behind our Community Hut into a garden with raised beds and a seating area. Many of our members are less able to maintain a whole or even a half plot but who wish to continue gardening. Therefore we felt they could look after the raised beds . We also have visiting community groups , some with additional support needs and visits from both primary and secondary schools. Consequently the whole area has to be easily accessible.

We have several ramps and small raised beds suitable for children.

As much as possible we have tried to use recycled materials and the work is being carried out by volunteers.

The raised beds will contain bee friendly flowers as well as vegetables.

It is still a work in progress and we are currently fundraising to install a wheel chair friendly mat to enable those with limited mobility easier access.
